Due to most road vehicles needing to comply with Euro 6 emissions they are delivered new with an EGR valve to recirculate dirty exhaust, a large SCR catalyst that utilises diesel exhaust fluid (known as AdBlue) and a diesel particulate filter.

The DPF is frequently blocking and thus needs regenerating which involves burning off the blockage with the diesel fuel and involves very high temperatures.

These very complex systems are the cause of engine coking up and many very expensive breakdowns and repairs, this is one major cause of higher mileage tractor units being available as lower price than a family car!

Because of the unpopularity of fossil fuels and political pressure plus legal frameworks and super tax raids on oil companies the quality of normal EN590 diesel is dropping and the 7.25% FAME biodiesel being included is making the quality even worse.

One possible solution is alternative diesel fuels like synthetic GTL or fossil free HVO renewable diesel fuels that burn much cleaner than normal DERV, this results in using less AdBlue and much less fuel or exhaust filter blocking.

Another possibility is to fit Opti Combustion pistons at the time of your engine being rebuilt; these are specially designed crown-geometry pistons with gapless piston rings and ceramic thermal coating.

These pistons change the whole way in which combustion of diesel fuel happens to make it more complete and thus ups fuel economy, slashes emissions, and actually cuts EGT temperatures, tip the turbocharger earlier and add both power and torque.
